The solubilities of the rare earth (RE) and Y oxalates in HCl of different concns. at μ = 0.5 and 25° was investigated, and the soly. products and the instability consts. of the MC2O4+ ions at μ = 0.5 and 25° were calcd. It was established that (1) in RE and Y oxalate solns. complex MC2O4+ ions exist, and (2) there is a periodic dependence of the soly. products and the instability consts. of RE oxalates MC2O4+ on the at. no. of the element.
The solubility of malonates and succinates of rare-earth elements and the stability constant of the corresponding complex ions

The soly. of malonates (I) and succinates (II) of La, Gd, and Lu was detd. in the following concns. of HCl: 0.025, 0.01, 0.005, and 0.0025M and at 0.5 ionic strength. The detd. soly. products (s) of I were of the order of magnitude of 10-18 to 10-19 and of II 10-15 to 10-19. The stability consts. (Kh) of complex ions of I were of the order of magnitude of 10-5 to 10-6 and of II 10-3 to 10-4. The calcd. values for S and Kh agreed well with other published values.
